Welcome
Katarina A. Brewbaker
I am a young professional navigating the complexities of federal service as a Technical Writer–Assistant Editor. I hold a Bachelor of Arts with Honors in Early Medieval History from the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa, along with a Minor in Political Science (International Relations), and a Certificate in Technical and Scientific Communication from Oregon State University.
My undergraduate thesis, “Old Wine, New Skins: Models of Roman Leadership in the Court of Charlemagne,” was featured in the inaugural issue of Mānoa Horizons (2016).
It can be accessed here at ScholarSpace: https://scholarspace.manoa.hawaii.edu/server/api/core/bitstreams/f7ad02dd-2b92-409d-b5df-dc91d5bb9e40/content
Outside of work, my passions revolve around painting, reading books, singing, dancing, gaming, and exploring the world through travel.
Mission Statement
Writing is a living, evolving force—and the written word carries as much weight as the spoken one. I chose the career path of a technical communicator because I believe everyone deserves equal access to information, especially individuals with disabilities. Watching my two blind cousins navigate a world that has not always prioritized accessibility shaped my commitment to this work.
As a Technical Writer–Assistant Editor in the federal government, I support Section 508 compliance, ensuring that all electronic and information technology is accessible to people with disabilities. This federal mandate, rooted in the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and expanded in 1998, guarantees equal access to the documents our government creates and relies upon.
With both professional responsibility and personal experience guiding me, I consider it an honor to serve the public—ensuring transparency, equity, and accessibility for all citizens.
